About Our Family Research


Axel Stried was my great grand father. He came to U.S.from Stockholm, Sweden,Svanhals Parish,17 April 1883 at the age of 19 . His brothers Adron,Gustav,and sister Jenny Linstedt also came to the U.S. Axel came to Maine then to Minnesota to clear land. There he met and married Minnie Polson. They moved to Moline,Illinois where he worked for John Deer plow shop. He then moved the family to Marcus, Iowa where they had 7 children. In 1910 the family moved to Zion, Illinois. Axel was the town Blacksmith.Minnie died in her home in 1945. Axel lived with his son Clarence and daughter in law Beulah until his death in 1946.Adron and Jenny lived in Rockford, Illinois.Jenny died at 45 years old. She had 4 sons and 2 daughters. Axel's children were,George,Clarence,Gladstone,Jennie,Bernice,Della,andElmer Stried.The majority of Axel's family still reside in or around Zion,Illinois. A family reunion is held every Aug.(3rd.Sunday)at Shilow park Zion. The original spelling of the Stried name Was Strid. Other spellings are Streed, Streid,&Stride.Minnie's family was from Oslo, Norway. Her Parents were Peter Fisk and Christina Erickson Polson.They both died in Zion, Illinois.Mt. Olivet Cemetary is the family cemetary in Zion.
