I HAVE BEEN RESEARCHING THE FAMILY CONNECTIONS FOR MANY YEARS. IT SEEMS TO HAVE BECOME MY QUEST. THE QUEST THAT BEGAN AS A CHILD WHEN GRANDFATHER WILLIAM PORTER HUMES TOLD ME THAT THE HUMES FAMILY HAD A CASTLE IN IRELAND.THIS REALLY LEFT AN IMPRESION ON A LITTLE GIRL. I CAN STILL SEE HIM STANDING IN THERE SMALL YARD TELLING ME THIS. HE WAS NOT ONE FOR MANY WORDS,AND I KNOW THE HUMES BOYS WERE ALSO NOTED FOR FAROUT TALES. I HAVE COME TO THINK HE REALLY WANTED ME TO KNOW THIS.
I HAVE ALSO COME TO KNOW THE NAME WAS ORIGINALLY HUME, BUT THE "S" WAS ADDED TO SEPERATE FROM DAVID HUME THE SCOTTISH PHILOSOPHFER. I HAVE ALSO DISCOVERD IN MY REASEARCH THE NAME HAS BEEN MISSPELLED IN SOME CENSUS RECORDS AND SHIP LOGS.
I STILL HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO MAKE THE CONNECTION WITH OUR COUSINS IN IRELAND. SO IF ANY ONE HAS A CLUE LET ME KNOW. I HAVE SOME IDEAS BUT NOTHING I CAN POSITIVLY SAY IS SO. TO MY FAMILY THIS IS A WORK IN PROGRESS. THERE MAY BE ERRORS, SO PLEASE KINDLY CORRECT ME AMD DON'T JUST BEAT ME UP!!!!
I WANT TO ACKNOWLEDGE THOSE WHO HAVE CONTRIBUTED TO THIS PAGE.
MY SISTERS: ELLEN BELK,AND MARY PLATT. ALSO COUSINS; MELISSA DAUGHERTY, CHERYL RIORDAN

  • THIS IS A "PEDRICK" (108 KB)
THIS IS A TIN TYPE OF A PEDRICK,WE ARE NOT SURE OF HER IDENTITY. I'LL CALL HER "MARY" Description: Tintypes became enormously popular in the United States during the Civil War. Introduced about 1856, tintypes gained widespread popularity as keepsakes for Civil War soldiers and their families. With the development of the tintype, Americans began to accept photography as an inexpensive alternative to portraiture. The tintype had one of the longest periods of popularity of any early photograph type, lasting from the mid 1850s mostly at county fairs. GIVE ME YOUR BEST QUESS.
  • PEDRICK (23 KB)
This is a "GEM" Stick pin. Help us to decide if the is the same person as the Pedrick girl. standing. I'll call her "Mary" too. Description: Photographers introduced tiny portraits in 1863. The very small portraits 7/8 by 1 inch (about the size of a small postage stamp) debuted with the invention of the Wing multiplying camera. They were popularized under the trade name Gem. These tiny images were popular because they provie an inexpensive way of sending phitographs to large numbers of friends and families. They were also just the right sizes for lockets or similar jewelry items holding small photographs. The Gem Galleries flourished until about 1890, The Gems were cut to fit lockets, cufflinks, tiepins, rings and even garter clasps
