Includes NotesNotes for Hartwig E. Jorgensen:
Obituary in the Council Bluffs Nonpareil

Hartwig E. Jorgensen, aged 6 years, died of Diphtheria at the home of his parents at 615 23rd Avenue at 3:30 o'clock yesterday afternoon. The funeral will take place privately from the residence at 4 o'clock this afternoon and interment will be had in Walnut Hill Cemetery. Two other children in the same family are ill with diphtheria, buy they are recovering.

Another article appearing the same day in the paper stated that Mary Ann Jorgensen, a child of 8 years of age had fallen ill with the same disease. She was the 3rd child at the same address to become ill with diphtheria. This child had to have been Dagmar, as she was 8 years old at the time. Hartwig's name appears as Hartzig, so it appears the paper had some difficulty with incorrect names.

Hartwig's burial is in Walnut Hill Cemetery in an unmarked grave. i came across this bit of information when I was looking through cemetery records in 1994. His grave is across the road and up a ways from the graves of John and Johanne Clementsen. You need to walk down toward the ravine, and it is located right on the edge. The cemetery records indicate his father, Emil, paid #3.50 for the grave site.

Gary Williams heard different stories from his Grandmother Annie Clementsen Williams and his Aunt Olga Clementsen. I am not sure which one told the story, but it seems Mary was sitting in the house sewing and Hartwig came in and said "Mamma, Mamma, do you hear the angels singing?' It was but a few days later that he died.
