Includes NotesNotes for Sarah Elva Rizor:
Elva Rizor was born in Beckwith, IAwhich was located mear Fairfield, IA. The town no longer exists. The Rizor family orginated with Jacob Rizor who immigrated to America from Germany in the late 1700's.

Elva does ot appear in any of the family census records. She had not been born yet when the 1880 (the year of her birth) census were taken and there are no records left of the 1890 census. At the time of the 1900 census Elva and Leon South were married and living in Fairbury, NE. All five of their children were born in Fairbury except for Mildred who was born in Missouri during a visit to Elva's sister Belle. The family moved to Council Bluffs, IA in 1925 and they lived at 2425 So. 6 St the remainder of their lives.

The house in Council Bluffs was always like Grand Central Station with much activity in the home. Not only befcause of the family residing in the 5 bedroom home but many relatives would come to visit.

Elva probably told many stories of her childhood, but unfortunately I was too young and I only remember one. She and I were discussing the alphabet, and she said whenever she would recite the alphabet, she always ended it by saying "Johnny slid down the cellar door."

Elva was known by all the children in our neighborhood as Grandma. I can remember her sitting in front of a small fan in the hot muggy summer stemming green beans from the garden. She always was th first to serve iced tea for summer meals and would pick mint that grew by thre flower garden. She loved the soap opers and at that time they only lasted 15 minutes with most of that time in commercials. At night we would make snacks. One was fired potato sandwiches and taffy candy. I can still see the taffy out on the back porch cooling in the winter weather.
