William is with his parents in the 1850 Hopkins County Texas census (William & Nancy). His is 14 years old.

William South returns to Osage county, Missouri and serves with the Union Army in the civil War. He and his wife are buried in the Christian Church Cemetery on the hill directly above St. Aubert called Medora during the Civil War
