The Sullivans of Franklin County Alabama Updated December 26, 2002
About Our Family Research
I am doing research on my gGrandfather who was born in Hodges, Franklin County Alabama in 12/12/1870. His daughter Mattie wrote a family history that listed him as James Merridith Sullivan; I have since found him listed as Joel Meriday Sullivan the son of Joel Mannen Scott and Polly Sullivan. The birth dates that she lists in her history match the information I have found for him as well as for his sistor Lydia and his brother James Alfred, so I belive that I am looking for the right person. I have found a lot of information about Joel Mannen Scott (Half Cherokee or full blood ), and information that says that Polly Sullivan was one of his wifes or they were never married, but I can find nothing about what happened to her or where she is buried. Where did she come from ? Was she born in Alabama or did she come from Ireland ? My great aunt's history said that my grandfather came to Cleburne, Texas with his brother John William Sullivan (Polly's oldest son ) and married my gGrandmother Ella Barron Lamon Baugh. He moved there, moved to Oklahoma for about ten years, move back and is buried in Cleburne. Any information anyone has would help me a lot. I am trying to put together a history of my family for my children.
