About 2 years I ago I started compiling my family history. To date I have found at least 7 Surnames that I am strongly descended through. While it has been alot of fun, at times it is very grueling work. As there are alot of leads but very limited documents to show actual proof of an ancestor. For those of you like me, who are new to this, I highly recommend writing down every resource. In the long run it will save alot of time and help you easily reconnect with information that's necessary to review again. I encourage you to speak to as many living relatives as possible, as soon as possible. And always remember that what you find on the internet MAY not always be accurate, use it as a guide. Collecting marriage, death and birth certificates is wonderful documention of facts. Ask other researches to share information to compare what you have, and sometimes you' get lucky and they'll documentation as well. Happy Hunting!
