Boy I tell you, there are sure a lot of Swaim's out there! I've been reading some of the blogs and I guess you can tell we are all related:). Some of you can get down right nasty with one another. Anyway, I started this back in 1999 I think, but have been working on it off and on for the past few years. I've read all kinds of stories and can't say I believe all of them or not but some do make since. Especially how our name came to be. SWAIM is an accronyn derived back in the 15th century when a group decided to rebel against the British. The founder of our sir name had a piece of paper in his pocket with the initials "SWAIM" on it. When questioned by the British soldiers (by the way his last name was Van Pelt) if he had given his real name he would have been executed on the spot. One of the British soldiers pull this piece of paper out of his pocket and asked him if this was his new sir name? He replied "yes" and they allowed him to move on. In all actuality the name "SWAIM" on the paper stood for: those Sworn to Withhold Allegiance to the Invading Monarch. So I guess you can say it still runs in our blood today. Until next time, be nice to everyone else who is trying to fill the gaps in thier own lineage. Gordon
