Started to research my ancestors after being curious about who and where I came from. I realize that being Ojibwe, the history isn't often written and have had alot of stumbing blocks but am grateful for being able to go back to 1500. This is my pet project and is ongoing as I haven't included alot of the names but will do so as I get the necessary information. I started this in 1984 and hope to pass it on to my children or someone else in the family who will continue to update as we grow. Much thanks to the ladies who work for BIA that helped in looking up the names and putting up with my persistance.
It has been an experience in finding out who everyone was and where they came from. To be able to give a speech and show the trail they followed from the Atlantic to present day Minnesota. To give the years they moved and the locations. To find out that I really am related to several famous Ojibwe chiefs, Chief Hole in the Day, Biauswa, Bug o nay ge shig.
This is something that I want to share and hopefully expand.
