Our Wisconsin Families from Norway and Germany

Updated January 12, 2001

About Our Family Research

We are currently doing research on our Norwegian ancestors from the Sognifiord area above Bergen, Norway and on our German ancestors from West Prussia, Germany now Poland. Our Norwegian ancestors immigrated in 1854 and 1857. Our German ancestors immigrated in 1884 and 1894. Both lines settled in Central Wisconsin north of Madison, the Wisconsin state capitol.

Family names include Andrews changed from the Norwegian form Anderson, Johnson, Gunderson, Rieck, Zerbel, Eagen, and Zaabel and others. The Johnson family used to have family reunions at the Poynette game farm every June, but the custom has fallen by the wayside. At some point, I am hoping that we will be able to have some reunions for family members.

We have researched the Norwegian lines back to about 1600, however, our German research is only back to about 1835 at this point.
