Currently tracing the Symonds connection back to UK and possibly Nordic origin - while filling in missing Bugden details. John Bugden arrived in Australia from Farley,Wiltshire,as a convict in 1824. In 1837, he married Margaret Roach and they produced 8 children and settled in Hunter Valley, New South Wales and later, northern NSW, many of us are still in area (give or take a couple of hours' drive and the Queensland border). Descendant, Patrick Joseph Bugden was posthumously awarded a VC in WWI in 1917. My Father, Alfred Ernest Symonds (oldest of five sons and one daughter), is the son of Veronica (Vera) Mary Symonds nee Bugden and Leslie William Symonds, (originally of Singleton, NSW). Vera is the first cousin of Patrick Bugden VC and second cousin of Henry Ford (Ford Motor Vehicles), the latter via her mother Elizabeth (Lizzie) Jordan, also of northern New South Wales.
On the Murphy side, work is in progress slowly. James arrived early-mid 1800s and settled in Ipswich, south east, Queensland area and his descendant,John Joseph Murphy married Catherine Christina Lanigan formerly of Tenterfield, NSW. Some registration details confuse Catherines and Kathleens (with Murphys' often marrying twice). Mother, Mercia Patricia Symonds nee Murphy is the youngest daughter (along with two brothers)of John's second wife. Will clarify exact names, dates and places when time allows.
