Mary D. Taffet's Other Family Page

About Our Family Research

In addition to researching my own family lines (which are quite numerous), I am also researching my husband's ancestors.

TAFFET

Joseph TAFFET and his wife Fannie LANDAU came from the Austro-Hungarian empire in the 1880's; most likely from the part of Galicia that is now in Poland. I have information on other Taffet families in addition to my husband's line.

HUMMEL (was HOMLEVSKY) and HASHINSKY

Moses/Morris HOMLEVSKY, his wife Sare/Sarah HASHINSKY, and their children came from the area around Pyriatin and/or Poltava, Russia, which is now part of the Ukraine. The surname was changed to HUMMEL in 1937. The Homlevsky's came to the US aboard the Statendam which arrived in NYC in July of 1904. Travelling with them was Hirsch (Harry) HASHINSKY, brother of Sarah (HASHINSKY) HOMLEVSKY. All were going to stay with Louis BRESLOWSKY, who had married Sarah and Harry's sister Bialya/Baylia/Becky/Beckie/Rebecca HASHINSKY. Breslowsky was subsequently changed to BRESLOW.

RUBIN (was Rubinowitch or something like that)

Leiser/Louis Rubin, also known as Wolf, his wife Jenny/Bess GREENBLATT, and their children were from Elisabethgrad, Russia, now called Kirovograd, Ukraine. Leiser/Louis came to the US from Liverpool England on board the Lake Ontario, which landed at the Port of Quebec in Canada; he then came to NYC via railroad, and crossed the border into the US on June 15, 1900. His son William followed him from Canada (Montreal) to NYC about a year later. We do not know if they were all on the Lake Ontario, and we do not know if Jenny and the children stayed behind in Montreal for some reason.

SIEGEL (was SAMINOWITCH ...or something like that)

Meyer SIEGEL, his wife Mary (BLUMBERG, BLOOMBERG or ROSENBERG), and their children are found in the 1900 census of NYC. They were from Russia, and came to NYC during the 1890's.

If you have any information about these family lines, I would very much appreciate hearing from you.
