Notes for John Tannehill: His father, Andrew, died at about 28 years of age. His mother, Ann, remarried quickly. John was taken by relatives to Isle of Wight County Virgina, and then to Albemarle County Virginia, and on to Pasquatank County in Eastern North Carolina. He later inherited the Calvert County Maryland plantation from his brother Andrew, as he died without heirs. John was also named in the will of a Tooke before 1719 as an heir. The first mention of John Tannehill in Virginia occurs as he acted as agent for John Scott, whose daughter John Tannehill married. John Tannehill, the Tookes, and the Scotts went to Craven County, North Carolina.
