Notes for William Tannehill 3: He helped build a church in Oxon Hill where George Washington is said to have gone as a boy. The church was still standing in 1939. It was considered a national landmark.
Here is his will, word for word: "Sept 15, 1729 I do make this my last will and testament being in health of body and sound of memory recommending me Soule to God who give it me hoping yt in through Jesus Christ my redeemer ye, free pardon of all my sins. I do constut and apoint my loving wif to be my Extx. and Administrator to pay my debts without any law suts I do leve on theird of my personallestat and the plantation y-. I now live upon ann all ye land belonging to it juring her life not yt. she shall heinder my son James to setell upon ye bak branch if he is minded. I do leve said plantationand all ye said land belonging to it after the death of his mother to him ye said James also my will is yt if there be anything after my wifs theirds and my debts it shall be divided amongst all my Childring. Yt if there be any Neger or Magers of my purchasing ay ye death of my wif they shall be ..... and divided between my sons Wm. and James. I do make void all former Wills as Witness my hand and Seall ye day & year above written. WILL TANNEHILL"
