Notes for Thomas Tannahill: "In a book published in Alabama, where a Tannehill family lived more than a hundred years ago (this would be early 1800's)... one evening a couple who lived on a "tanna" hill were out hunting their cow that had strayed away, when they found a small boy that was lost, too young to know his name or that of his parents. The widest inquiry failed to locate his parents, so the old couple kept the little boy and gave him the name Tannahill, because they lived high on a hill." -James B. Tannehill.
