Thomas Tate and family are part of the history of the southern U. S. A. including Virginia,and North Carolina and Mississippi, and Texas. Thomas Tate was born in N.C. in 1813; he worked as a wagon maker.The young family is noted in the Chickasaw County Mississippi census of 1850. Margaret was born in 1816 and is also from N. C. Margaret is the Mother of sons. Hosea B. Tate was born Oct. 28, 1839. William L. Tate was born in 1843. John H. C. Tate was born Oct. 1844. James Robert Tate was born Dec.1847. Margaret was most likely the Mother of Calvin A. Tate. Calvin was born Dec. 1852. Maragaret may have died after the birth of Calvin A. the fifth son. Martha M. is caring for the family at the time of the 1860 census. Martha M. (or Matilda) is the second wife of Thomas Tate. Martha M. was born in 1822. They were married April 10, 1862. Thomas Tate enlisted in the C.S.A. in 1863 and served with Forrest Division of the Miss. volunteers. Thomas Tate and four sons joined the Confederate States Army while living in Pontotoc County, Mississippi; they were part of the Army of Tennessee Valley. Hosea B. Tate enlisted Spring of 1861 in the 1st Miss. Infantry; and was enroled in the C.S.A. 1st Reg't Miss. Volunteers, (Johnson's) Capt. William Young's Co. (Reube Davis Rebels) Aug. 1861 Company C. The commanders were Capt. Davis and Col. Simington. He was in Iuka Miss Sept. 19, 1861. Hosea was a non-commisioned officer most likely a Corporal, when he was captured at Fort Donelson, Tenn. on Feb 16, 1862. Hosea B. Tate was sent to Camp Morton, Indianapolis, Ind; and was one of the men exchanged in Sept. 1862. Hosea Tate was part of the Cavalry of Miss. that was sent to Port Hudson. LA. Hosea was captured July 9, 1863; and He was paroled from Port Hudson LA. July 13, 1863. Hosea B. Tate was then in the 11th Cavalry of Miss. Hosea B. Tate served as Corporal, with Capt. T. J. Rye's Company D, 2 Batt'n Miss. State Troops according to Company Muster Roll of April 29, 1864.On May 4, 1864 he had the rank of Sgt. He also was with Ashcroft Regiment. He was a Sgt. with Company C, 2nd Battalion State Cav. (Harris's). H. B. Tate was wounded in the Right hip by a shell, in Aug. 1864 at Battle of Selma, Ala. He also had injury to Left arm. He did not have use of the right leg or left arm according to testimony. H.B. Tate was captured again for about two weeks, and said he escaped about the time his Command surrendered. Hosy Tate's Command surrendered at Selma Ala. H.B. Tate was described as being 5'10" tall with light colored hair and gray eyes.Hosy married Sarah Frances (Fannie) Johnson Sept. 10, 1865; they were the parents of three sons. H. B. Tate lived with his wife and son Fred Tate in Algoma, Pontatoc County, Miss in 1916 when he applied for a CSA pension. He retired to the Beauvoir Old Soldier's Home in Biloxi, Miss. where he died July 22, 1926. Hosea B. Tate and wife are buried at Ebenezer Cemetery Pototoc County, Miss. Family lore say that William L. Tate was killed on a bridge with another brother present during the C.S.A. war before 1865. John H. C. Tate also served in the C.S.A; he most likely moved to Texas with other family in 1868. His wife is Dama M. Tate. He is recoeded as being a hotel keeper the 1900 census Callahan county, TX. James Robert Tate joined the C.S.A. Cavalry to be with his eldest brother Hosea B. Tate. He served for 3 yrs. They served Company I, commanded by Thomas Rye, Armstrong Brigade. He is said to have served in Miss, Alabama, and Georgia. James Robert (Bob) Tate served Company I, 11th (Perrin's) Mississippi Cavalry, C.S.A. as a Private. He was present at the time of surrender at Citronelle, Selma, Alabama, May 4, 1865 and he was paroled at Columbus, Miss. Thomas Tate and some of his family moved to Texas in 1868 after the Civil War. IN the MS census of 1850 Thomas Tate and family lived in the county of Chickasaw. In the MS census of 1860 the family was living in Pontotoc.

R.V. Tate was born Oct. 7, 1909 in Milsap, Parker County,TX and died July 4, 1993 in San Angelo, TX. Margaret was born July 29, 1914 in TX and died Feb. 13, 1985 in San Angelo, TX. They were married Nov. 17,1929 in TX.

Squire Richard Tate was a farmer and stock trader in TX. He was called Dick. His wife is Lucinda Eviline Tidwell Tate, she was called Dutch. They were married Oct. 27, 1901 in Granbury, Hood County, TX. She is the daughter of William Tidwell and Lucinda Keeney.

Two head stones mark the site of the graves of Dick Tate and Dutch Tidwell Tate in Knox City Cemetery TX. Dick Tate was born April 4, 1879 in Hood County, TX he died July 18, 1949 in Knox County, TX. Lucinda (Dutch) was born March 22, 1876 in Hill County, TX and died July 3, 1943 in Knox County, TX.
