Jesse Taylor (b. January 29, 1876, d. August 31, 1953)
Jesse Taylor (son of Lewis Parrish Taylor and Henrietta Young) was born January 29, 1876 in Oak Center, Fon Du Lac Co., WI, and died August 31, 1953 in Oriska, ND. He married Florence Rice on May 11, 1904 in Dunlap IL.
Notes for Jesse Taylor: JESSIE J. TAYLOR Jessie J. Taylor, pioneer resident of Barnes County, age 77 years, seven months and two days, passed away Monday noon, August 31, 1953, at his farm home north of Oriska. Mr. Taylor was born at Oak Center, WI, January 29, 1876. He was the eldest son of Lewis P. Taylor and Henrietta Young Taylor. As a child, he came with his family to Minnesota where he lived for nine years before moving to Tower City in 1889. Three years later the family homesteaded in Minnie Lake Township. As a young man, Mr. Taylor attended the Valley City Normal School, and Dixon College in Illinois. He devoted several years to teaching school in Barnes County, both during his youth and later in maturity. On May 11, 1904, he was united in marriage with Florence Rice at Dunlap, IL. They have one daughter, Geneva. Mr. Taylor helped organize the State Bank of Oriska in 1903, and served as its cashier for twenty years. In 1924, he was appointed postmaster for Oriska, and he held this position for eight years. In 1934, he moved to his farm home north of Oriska. Mr. Taylor had a deeply religious nature, and for fifty years he was active member of the Congregational Church and Sunday School. He was a leader in county and local civic affairs, constantly giving of his time and energies to community endeavors. He was a member of the Oriska School Board for forty years, and served several terms as treasurer of the Barnes County School Officer's Association. One of his major interests in recent years was assembling information about early North Dakota history. He was a thirty-second degree mason of the Cereal Lodge, A.F. & A.M., No. 7 Tower City, ND His parents, two brothers, Charles E. and Leslie C., and two sisters, Nettie, and Pearl, Mrs; Whitfield McKay, preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife, Florence, one daughter, Geneva, of Peoria, IL, and two brothers, Herbert L. of Valley City, ND, and Raymond L. of Neche, ND, a number of nephews and nieces, and a host of friends. Mr. Taylor had been in failing health for the past few years. He spent his last three winters with his daughter in Peoria, IL, returning to his farm home each summer. In the section devoted to Whitfield McKay, it is written, "Lewis and Henrietta Taylor, parents of Pearl Taylor McKay (Mrs. Whitfield McKay) moved from Wisconsin to the family home in 1892 where they farmed until 1914." submitted by Brian Harvey and from the obituary September, 1953
. Although by then ( 1950) Uncle Jesse was almost completely blind, and Aunt Florence almost so, but they don't appear that way in the picture. (I don't remember exactly when Uncle Jessie died - maybe 1953, but I remember the event vividly. I had had a severe asthma attack, so my mother called the doctor and he instructed her to bring me in for an epinepheren injection. When we got there we had to wait for about two hours. Finally the doctor arrived and informed us he'd been called away on any emergency; i.e., Uncle Jesse had had a heart attack and had died.) submitted by Roger Taylor
