father was John, b.6/10/1717, Springfield, MA, then James born 10/26/1669, Springfield, MA; then James b. Scotland abt. 1630 captured as a prisoner of war during one of the Scottish rebellions (Battle of Dunbar 1650) and transported to Boston, sold as indentured servant to a Capt. Pynchon. First moved to Kittery, Maine then to Springfield MA. Other researchers list James as associated with the Cromwell movement who fled to MA. under the protection of the same Capt. Pynchon. Still being researched may be Cromwell follower who fled to MA to escape agents of James II.
