  • Tefft, Dietz, Shutt, Wilson, Congdon, Youker (242 KB)
    These men and women are mostly Germans, arriving in NY & PA in early to late 1700s. Congdons, however, were Welsh and the Wilsons, English. Youker and Shutt men served in the Revolutionary War and all 6 families gave sons to the Civil War. Germans, coming from a background of Prussian oppression fiercely guarded their freedoms. Some stayed in NY and others pushed toward the western frontiers, often traveling in groups of families.
