In search of our Rieber family roots. Pius was born somewhere in Germany in 1860. We were told he imigrated with his family, Frank Rieber and Johanna Schrof Rieber when Pius was 5 years old to Switzerland. Pius met his future bride one day as she was picking adelvise on an alp. She lost her balance and went running down the alp out of control into the arms of Pius who was at the bottom of the hill. I was told that the night he died he fell over and she caught him and he died in her arms and it was said she said she said he caught me for life and I caught him in death. Pius wife was Mary Josephine Birrer, she was born in Switzerland in 1859. Her parents were Henry or Heinrich Birrer and Mary Anne Huntsinger. Pius and Josephine imigrated to the USA around 1885 and bought land in Casey County Kentucky with a man named William Rhul. They named the land Rheber, and it remains that name to this day. Pius and Josephine lost a child there to Typhoid and another was born there, Thersa Ida. Casey County was a bad experiance for them so they only remained there for 1 year. They moved to Louisville were they remained until their deaths. Their children were; Anna Mary b 12-1-1883.d.7-8-1959 Emma Katherine b.10-23-1885 d.3-5-1969 Theresa Ida b.4-11-1890 d.1-4-1966 John Meinrad b.6-11-1898 d.7-30-1981 [our Grandfather]
