THANK/SINRUD Family History Project

About Our Family Research

This site is dedicated to the search for our family roots on both sides of our children's parents, myself and my husband.
Special thanks given to Judith Ann Walters for her research on the maternal side of our family and to the many others in the world of genealogical research who have corresponded with me and made possible some advances in many areas of former "brickyard" research.

Our children's paternal grandfather, John Thomas THANK, was born in Feilding area of Saskat. Prov., Canada in December of 1905. His father, John Joseph THANK, was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 1878. John Joseph's parents were named John THANK and Anna SCHMIDT, both from Germany. This is reported from Spanish American War papers and death certificates. Grandpa THANK spoke German and we were informed the family name was "changed" many years ago. We currently have our surname enrolled in the German Family Treemaker DNA projects: one for the Y-DNA and one for our mother's DNA in the mtDNA project under MECHAM via Thomas THANK, her son.

Our children's paternal grandmother, Pearl Naomi JAMES [she considered herself a JMAES], was born in Wallace, Shoshone County, Idaho on the 4th of October, 1904.

Mother Pearl N. JAMES was adopted, at the age of 25 days, by her loving new parents, Ella and Harry JAMES on October 29th, 1904. Court papers of adoption state Pearl's mother was called "Bessie Mecham". Because the State of Idaho has no other records, we do not know if this is a widow's name or a maiden name.

Mother Pearl's father known as Harry JAMES, born 1876/78 in Oklahoma Territory to John H. James and Mary E. [unknown]...former research done proved to be inaccurate and this is revised and updated family genealogical information. There are, however, ties with several Illinois family surnames such as BIRDSELL, MOORE, WILLIAMS, and BARNARD that heve been researched without being able to find the missing links. Harry maintained he came from parent of Kentucky and other roots but ran off from home at the age of nine due to his mother's re-marriage after the death of a father. We have photos of 1940's World's Fair in Chicago with BIRDSELL and WILLIAMS links. We also have a photo of a female JAMES by marriage to a JAMES line from England circa 1850's via Canada; this line settled in Iowa and St. Paul, MN.

Pearl's mother was Ellen "Ella" Jane Rathjen born 1883 in Brooklyn, Kings Co., New York to Henry Rathjen; According to the second marriage certificate of her sister, May RATHJEN-BUCK [she married our Grandpa THank after his divorce from his wife, Lucy BREEN in 1920], the mother of Ella and May is named as Mary RIVERS. She was born in New York according to census records of the two daughters, Ella and May. The father was born in in an unkn place, as the girls give various places in 1900 thru 1930.

Our children's maternal grandfather, Douglas H. Sinrud, Sr. grew up in Fernwood, Benewah County, Idaho and was born the 12th of April, 1919 to Peter L. Sinrud and Gunda E. Sorlie; both Peter and Gunda were born in Wisconsin of immigrant parents who were from Norway. These families came to America in the 1868 circa.

Our children's maternal grandmother, Frances Alberta Thompson, was born in Edson, Alberta, Canada on the 6th of June, 1920. Her parents are Arthur Raymond Thompson (son of Henry Morgan Thompson born in 1862 of J.W. Thompson of Monmouth, New Jersey and Anna Sarah Dark of England) and Ruby Gwendolyn Lea Trench (daughter of Walter George Trench of England and Fanny Venables Lea---widow of Captain William Anderson Miller--) also of England. Raymond was born in Wilbur, Lincoln County, Washington on May 15th, 1896 and Ruby was born in West Derby, Lanchshire, England on August 25th of 1999. Ray THOMPSON was an author of many books and a writer for the old Alaska Sportsman Magazine. He was also an inventor and a trapper of the Canadian Wildernesses of Alberta, Canada.
