The Thornton family of Kenton,TN in Gibson and Obion counties, starts with Richard Daryll & Freida Boyd Thornton of Morella Rd.in Kenton. Their children included one daughter, Phyllis Kaye and three sons, Ronald Daryll,Michael Lee,and Mark Alan. Phyllis Kaye and husband Gordon E.Crenshaw of Dyer,TN, married in June 1972, now reside in Lake Mary,FL ,they have two sons,Christopher Todd and Nicholas Andrew. Ronald Daryll and wife Sally Cartwright of Dyer, married in July 1979, and now reside in Mt.Sterling,KY. They have one son, Brent Alan. Michael Lee and wife Blesilda Monzon of Kawit-Cavite, Philippines, married in October 1982. They now reside in Dyer,TN,have one son, Allyson Craig,and one daughter,Amber Nicole. Mark Alan and wife Donna of MA, married in July 1999 They reside in Kenton,TN. They have a daughter, Courtney. Richard's parents were Bates and Mable White Thornton of Iron Mountain Rd.,in Dyer,TN. Mable was sister of Charley Bruce. Bates was brother to Fred and Robert. Freida's parents are Effie Caton Boyd King of Kenton, and Elbert Boyd of the Mt. Pelia commmunity near Martin, TN. Richard has one sister,Mary Elizabeth Landrum of Hesperia,CA. In 1958, Richard & Freida moved to Kenton from Rives TN. They purchased their first home at 311 Flowers Street. They resided here till 1977,at which time they moved to another house on Church St.in Kenton. They resided here until 1986, at which time they moved to their present residence at 100 Morella Road in Kenton. Their children all attended and completed elementary and high school at Kenton Special School District on College St.,in Kenton. Richard was drafted in the US Army in 1950,and did his training at Ft. Bliss,TX,and later transferred to Ft. Lewis,WA. He was honorably discharged in 1953. Ron joined the Tennessee National Guard in 1972,and trained at Fort Polk,Louisiana. Returning for duty at Humboldt Armory,in Humboldt,TN. Mike joined the US Navy in 1979,and was homeported in Honolulu,Hawaii after rate class schools in Memphis TN, Mountain View CA, San Diego CA and Pensacola FL. He met his wife while in NAS Cubi Point, Philippines on a six month deployment. He was honorably discharged in June 1984.
