As we were growing up we thought that the name Tipton was quite rare. We lived in a town of 100,000 people and we were the only Tiptons in it. My grandfather was an only child and his father died before my dad and uncles were very old. So there was little oral or written history for us to study. Now with the internet and the "information revolution", we are finding that not are Tiptons thicker than gnats, but there were quite a few all around us. In fact, my great-grandfather was one of 11 children and many settled in the Central Illinois area.
If you are from the central Illinois area and know that you descended from Samuel Tipton, I'd love to hear from you.
My immediate family is my two brothers, a sister and myself. All born and raised in Decatur, Illinois. We men are still here but my sister lives in Nashville, Tn. My dad was one of three brothers, all born here in Decatur. Unfortunately, dad and two of his brothers have already passed away at young ages and only my uncle Tom Tipton is still with us.
