I'm the grandaughter of Elva Crippen Schenkel and Dewey Schenkel. Dewey's father was Gustavas Schenkel, who originally lived in Philadelphia. He was Episcopalian, and an organ builder. He built the organ in the Episcopal church in Philadelphia, and moved to Chester, IL to work at an organ factory.
His first wife, Lizzatta, died at the age of 34, leaving two children: Bessie and Armond, who went to live with her family upon her death.
His second marriage, from which I am a decendant, was to Kate McDonough [b. 9/21/1864]. She was the daughter of Lavena C. Forsee [b. 11/15/1824] and Thomas J McDonaugh [b/1/14/1843], who were married on 11/16/1843. She was previously married to Joseph Walster [10/23/1884].
Gustavas and Kate had one child, my grandfather Dewey Schenkel. He married Elva Schenkel on 4/30/1927. She was the daughter of Elbert A Crippen (son of Nicholas, grandson of JJ Crippen)and Mary Belle Gideon (daughter of John A., grannddaughter of William, and great-grand daughter of James Gideon). Elva and Dewey had one child, my mother, Lois A. Schenkel.
