Terry, born Sunday 23rd June 1935 in St Olaves Hospital, Bermondsey London. A happy upbringing. Moved to Tunbridge Wells just after WW2 started. My father, Frank was moved there from Guys hospital where he was working to the Kent and Sussex Hospital. He stayed there until the war ended when he moved back to Guys. I had a wonderful war. Makes me feel quite guilty when all that carnage was going on but dogfights and doodlebugs were exciting. Moved to London at the end or just before the end of the war. Went to Bonneville Road Junior school. From there to Clapham secondary Central, Aristotle Road, Clapham North. Never a distinguished pupil although I excelled in Art Woodwork and metalwork. Prick of a headmaster by the name of Earl decided that I was quite bright and I spent my last two years at school struggling with bookkeeping shorthand and typing. Rebelled totally. A hellish last two years! Started work at the age of fifteen as a library boy in a Fleet Street press agency at 35/- a week, £1.75 in todays money (2005) Eventually moved in to the darkroom as a boy and from there to become a printer. Pongoland or the army as it's better known started on 15/10/1953 in Worcester. Norton Barracks where doodah is supposed to be buried. From there to Aldershot, then Gillingham and on to Malaya. Only heard a few shots fired in anger before I escaped in 1955 back to the Street.
