The first of the black sheep? Will we ever know? Born in Ceres, Fife. Moved to London. Married Katherine Slade, a bakers daughter from Bristol, at The Register Office, St Saviours, Southwark, London, on the 6th November 1875. She was six months pregnant at this time. Was this why he was disowned? Address at this time was 19 Trinity Street, Newington, London. Trinity Street runs between Borough High Street and Great Dover Street. Have still to find his death (Mar 2005) Of his three brothers, Peter became a marine engineer, James had a chain of wine and spirit establishments and Alexander was an accountant. William was a mercantile clerk living about three miles away from Alexander. Whether they knew of each others presence so close to each other is not known. Certainly I never got any inkling that it was so. Seems William left Kate in the lurch. He left her permanently after Henry was born in the workhouse. Dad (Frank) reckoned that he was a piss artist of the first water. The family made his wife an allowance which was paid in to Bermondsey Parish Church after William did a bunk.(Beverley is trying to find out more about this. 2005) So far (2005) have failed to find his death.
