Robert married Mary Tullis, nee Lamb, after her husband James Tullis died after being accidentally shot in the chest whilst out hunting in 1860. A self inflicted wound. There is a possibility that they got married in Calton, Glasgow but no proof yet. The first reference to him I've found he is listed as a magistrate/landowner/auctioneer. In the 1891 census he is listed a a railway contractor.
