This page contains information on the Garcia/Fuentes family of Dorado and Las Piedras, Puerto Rico, the Valentino/Pugliese family of Acettura and Sala Consilina, Italy, and their descendants. My father James (Vincenzo) Pugliese married my mother Maria Evelina Garcia. The family goes back 8 generations to the the 1840s, from my youngest cousins on both sides to Francesco Garone of Sala Consilina on the Italian side and Maria Rosario of Las Piedras on the Puerto Rican side.
I am interested in finding more information about both sides of the family and especially about Maria Rosario, my great-great grandmother on my mother's side, and her daughters Bárbara Fuentes, my great grandmother, and Calistina Fuentes. I would also appreciate any information on Calistina's children Juan Francisco Fuentes (b. 1872), Sotera Fuentes (b. 1874), and Sotera's daughter Cayetana Fuentes (b. 1898), all in Las Piedras. Baptismal records tell us that Bárbara had been a slave at least until the birth of her first son Anastasio in 1872. Her owner was a Doña Luisa Torres of Las Piedras. Her sister Calistina, about whom we know very little, also had been a slave, but of a different owner.
I hope that you find this Family Page interesting and useful. Please let me know if there are any mistakes or omissions so that they can be corrected.
