Notes for John Peter Capesius (Peter): Found in the Manders book while in St. Donatus the summer of 2002 informat ion about John Capesius' (1797) emigration with family to Iowa. They trav eled on The Sea Lion. They left from Antwerp, Belgium in 1850 and arriv ed in New Orleans on June 10, 1850. They then probably took a boat up t he Mississippi to Iowa. John Capesius and his wife, Anna, were 53 years o ld at that time. The children that went with them are: Peter, 28, Ann a, 22, John, 25, Franz (John Peter), 18, Nicolas, 13, and Johanna, 13. Do minique Forret, Anna's future husband was on the boat also. It appears th at Petrus , 32, did not go with them.
