Lester was the last engineer on the Chicago, Bellevue, Cascade and Weste rn Railroad. The rial line's route west from Bellevue took the train pa st Deppe's parents farm and he remembered hitching rides on the tra in as a boy. It was Lester who brought the last train into Bellevue Mar ch 14, 1936, to end 55 years of rail service between Bellevue and Cascade.
