The Unversaw's of Indianapolis, IN are the decendants of Andrew and Elizabeth Lark Unverzagt who came to the US from Germany in 1835. Five of their eight children were born in Germany, the other three in Kentucky. The children Americanized the name to Unversaw. My Great Grandfather was their third child, John N. Unversaw, who married Achsohen (Axie Ann) Devalle. They produced six children, Ernest N., Charles G., Anna, Emma D., Edgar Maxwell, and Sarah. My Grandfather was Edgar Maxwell Unversaw, a lifelong resident of Indianapolis, married to Allison Hunter Cowie Unversaw. Their only child Frank John Unversaw was my father. My mother was Mary Florence Farlow of Paoli, IN. My interest in searching my family history began when I received an initial list of ancestors compiled by a member of another branch of the family. Then I was given John N. Unversaw's obituary notice. Marshall of Indianapolis during the Civil War, he was instrumental in thwarting the efforts of the Knights of the Golden Circle, rebel synpathizers, to arm Confederate prisoners who would then overthrow the city. He uncovered the arms in shipping crates labeled "Sunday School Books." Now I have my wife, Charlotte, hooked on computer research and coming up with interesting tidbits of additional information. We are in the process of extending the family history to include not only our children, but also grandchildren and great grandchildren.
