As early as 1041, it is recorded a woman named Edeva held a tract of land referred to as "UPHAM". By 1140, the name had been taken as a surname by the father of Hugo de Upham (of or from Upham) who, in 1208 had provided a gift of land to the church from the Campis de Upham(The Upham Estate). This then is the record of not only our name's origin, but our family's also, for Hugo and his descendants left a legacy of cotinuous residence up this present day in Wiltshire and Devonshire, England.
THOUGH THE SHADOWY MISTS OF HISTORY WE REACH BACK FOR A LINK WITH THESE ANCESTORS OF OURS, THESE THAT BROUGHT TO US THIS NAME,UPHAM.
UPHAM(MI)! (147 KB) This is a branch of UPHAM that has not been included in the F.K.Upham book. His book leaves off with the Uphams that came to Michigan up to my Grandfather William L. Upham (Born 04 Dec. 1885). Here is the rest of us "UPHAM'S". ( Still being updated.)
