I started researching my family history in Fall 2005. Most of my grandparents passed away before I was born, so I never got to meet them and grew up listening to stories from family members about them. For many years, I held on to those fond memories of my grandparents, always wanting to learn more. Several years ago, my three eldest sisters received money from a New Mexico(N.M.) Spanish Land Grant. Our ancestors had settled in the Tome, N.M. area over 250 years ago, and class action lawsuits from the Land Grant were finally being settled. Learning about my family connection to the Tome Land Grant, and that my Dad's family had lived in the N.M. area long before N.M. gained statehood in 1912, fascinated me, so my journey of looking into the past to research my family's history began.........
My father Salomon Moya (1913-1979), was born in Belen, New Mexico. His parents, Margarita Zamora (1884-1940) and Jose M. Moya (1871-1931), were both born in Tome, New Mexico. Their parents, Antonio Moya and Vidal Martinez were also from Tome, New Mexico. My grandma Margarita's parents were Jose M. Zamora, and Ramona Chavia. So far I've collected marriage records from the Tome Church that date our family as having lived in the Tome, New Mexico area as far back as the 1700's.
My mother Lucy(Gonzalez)Moya was born in 1914 in San Bernardino,Ca. and currently resides in Sanger,Ca. Her parents, Theodora Gonzalez (1884-1961) and Theodoro Gonzalez (1889-1947)immigrated to the United States from Chihuahua, Mexico in the late 1800's. They settled in San Bernardino, Ca. to raise their family. My mother grew up in a large family with 2 brothers, and 8 sisters. I still have family and many cousins that live in the southern Califonia area.
