Welcome to the Van Hyning/Schilling home page!

Since I began researching our family history, I've put together a family tree that currently contains the names of over 13,000 ancestors and relatives. I owe a great deal to my uncle, Peter Ernest Schilling, who has done far more research than I have on our side of the family tree. Thanks, Uncle Pete!

The latest news is that we have finally connected with our Thompson line through the discovery of Grandpa Schilling's birth father, Elmer Ernest Thompson (1893-1921), due to the generosity of Elmer's great-grand niece Laura Cameron Schroeder.

Since creating this web page in early 2001, I have been fortunate enough to discover many relatives who were kind enough to share information with me! The wonderful photographs of the Schilling, Randall and Dahl families are taken from a scrapbook that belonged to my great-grandmother, Marguerite Schilling Kean.

The majority of research and photographs of the Van Hyning family are taken primarily from June Herman Ely's book "The Van Hyning Family History," Gateway Press, Baltimore, 1988. Additional photographs of the Van Hyning family are from Frances Holland Jackson.

The majority of research for the Kelsey family is taken from the Kelsey Genealogies, Volumes I-V. All Kelsey photographs and some Van Hyning photographs are from my children's great grandmother, Reita Kelsey Van Hyning.

I have visited a number of Ohio cemeteries in search of our ancestor's grave sites, and have added a number of photographs to Genealogy.com's Virtual Cemetery. Please click on Virtual Cemetery under the Communities link if you would like to view any of these tombstone photographs.
