I started my research in 1990 with the intention of providing a legacy gift to my father who had done some previous research. My initial data came from the family Bible, which provided some names and dates. I bought FTM off the shelf and, using some of the tools included, planned out a trip to the national archives to explore the census records. This confirmed some of the original data and disproved others. It also led to a search of civil war records that provided a great deal of info on one ancestor, his wife and children. To date, the gift isn't complete.
