I am currently researching 2 main lines of Van de Waters that came to North America in the early to mid 1600's. To this point there does not appear to be any relationship between the 2-lines.
The first line, Benjamin van de Water came to New Amsterdam around 1651, though an earlier arrival date is possible. He is better known for his son Jacobus. Benjamin was sponsored by the Dutch East Indies Trading Company and came to New Amsterdam as a wine and beer merchant.
The second line, Hendrick van de Water came to New Amsterdam as the orphan son of Jan van de Water a sea-captain who was lost at sea.
I believe that other lines of Van de Waters came to the New World later, and I am still attempting to identify them. I would be interested in hearing from anyone, anywhere that is doing research on the Van de Water Family name regardless of the way you spell it.
Some of the variations are as follows: van de Water, Van de Water, Vandewater, Van der Water and so forth and so on.
