I am presently researching the van der Merwede family name. The origins are in The Netherlands and the towns include: Goor, Utrecht, Kampen and Zephen.

The last male van der Merwede to live out his life in the Netherlands appears to be Lord Johan Fredrik baron van der Merwede (son of Lord Philip Everhard baron van der Merwede) who died in Goor, Overjissl in 1847. His oldest 2 sons moved to Belgium and his wife Geertrudia Wouters took the remaining children to New York.

The van der Merwede family goes back at least to the 1200's and that is the direction my search is taking.
