Iam 9th Generation VAN NOY, decended from John Vannoy of Staten Island.I have seen the record that indicates he was a tax collector about 1690.
I am trying to find out information about where he was born. Our family tradition indicates that he was descended from a family of 5 brothers who were Hugenots. They fled from somewhere in France to avoid being killed when many Hugenots (protestant) were being persecuted by the Catholic Church. They fled to Holland where they lived for a time undetermined. Our tradition also indicates tha John Vannoy may have lived in the British Islands before coming to America.
I would appreciate any information available that would provide information about the above John Vannoy.
