This sumarizes the early genealogical history of our branch of the van Dorsten family including: van Dorsten, Elskamp, Lamens, van Snabel (Snabel), Sterrenberg and van Schaik.
van DORSTEN
Lammert van Dorsten was born about 1730 in Arnhem. He married Maijke van Doeland who was born about 1730 in Leerdam. Their children included Geertruida, Lammert, Jr., and possibly Jan; born 1754-1758.
Lammert van Dorsten, Jr. married Anna Sophia Hobbers in about 1795 in Leiden. They had a son Hendrik van Dorsten, born 1797 in Leiden.
Hendrik van Dorsten's first wife was Petronella ter Regt. His second wife was Helena Maria Gotte, born 1798. They were married 1828 in Leiden. They had a daughter, Jansje van Dorsten, born 1841 in Leiden.
ELSKAMP
Antoni Elskamp was born in 1788 in Amsterdam. His parents were Barent Elskamp and Jannetie (Jansje) Goosman, who were married in 1787 in Amsterdam. His siblings were Johannes, Meijndert, Willem and Neeltje van Dorsten; born 1790-1795. Barent's parents were Anthonie Elskamp and Tryntje Simons.
Antoni Elskamp married Elisabet Smit in 1810 in Amsterdam. Her parents were Hendrik Smit and Johanna Rosenbeek.
Elisabet and Antoni had a son, Barend Elskamp, born 1816. He married Anna Klijnsmit in 1841. Anna was born in Wesp in 1822. Her parents were Martinus Klijnsmit and Hilletje van de Steen.
Barend and Anna had the following children; Elisabeth, Antonie, Jannetje, Bernardus, Charlotte and Anna Catharina Elskamp, born 1842-1865 in Amsterdam.
LAMENS
Joris Lamens married Antje Mijnheer in Delft in 1786. She was born c. 1749 in Delft. Her parents were Klaas Mijnheer and Jannetjie Lusing. Joris and Antje had the following children: Jacob, Johannes (Jan), Klaas, Hendrik, Janna and Jaapie, born 1788-1794.
Johannes Lamens was born 1790 in Delft. He married Cornelia Hogervorst in 1815 in Delft. She was born c 1794 in Delft. Her parents were Cornelis Hogervorst and Aagie Bon. Johannes and Cornelia had a son, Jooris in 1815.
Next Johannes married Grietje de Wild (de Wildt) in 1830 in Delft. She was born in 1795. Her parents were Hendrik de Wild and Neeltje Hogerwerf. Johannes and Grietje had the following children: Nicolaas and Hendrik (twins), Margaritha and Hendrika, born 1831-1836.
Nicolaas Lamens married Catharina Snabel in 1862 in The Hague. They had the following children: Maria, Nicolaas Charles, Jacobus, Abram, Catharina and Johannes Lamens, born 1858-1874.
VAN SNABEL (Snabel)
Abraham van Snabel, Jr. was born about 1800. His parents were Abraham van Snabel and Anna Smit. Abraham, Jr. married Maria Ekkers in 1826 in The Hague. Her parents were Willem Ekkers, born 1798, and Catharina van Someren, born 1799.
Abraham, Jr. and Maria had a daughter, Catherine Snabel. Her birth certificate lists her name as Snabel.
Catherine married Nicolaas Lamens (above) in 1857.
STERRENBERG
Gerrit Sterrenberg was born in 1804 in Amsterdam. His parents were Leutje Sterrenberg and Catharina Hoogwoud. He had a brother, Jan Sterrenberg, born in 1802.
Gerrit married Alida Harmsen in 1836. Her parents were Johannes Harmsen and Jacoba Voogt.
Gerrit and Alida had the following children; Johannes, Gerrit and Alida Sterrenberg, born 1835-1838.
Johannes married Wilhelmina van Schaik in 1865.
VAN SCHAIK
Jan van Schaik was born in 1810 in Amsterdam. His parents were Johannes van Schaik and Wilhelmina Nevels.
Jan married Theodora Stikvoort in 1838. Her parents were Nicolaas Stikvoort and Jacoba Liveser. Theodora was born in 1810.
Jan and Theodora had a daughter Wilhelmina van Schaik who married Johannes Sterrenberg in 1865 (above).
