Great-grandfather,Bartholomew Columbus Vandal, came west from West Virginia in the late 1840's or early 1850's. Start a newspaper in San Francisco in April of 1864. Before that,he was involved in setting up the government of the new state of California. Bankrolled many a miner and was paid back two-fold. Married Elizabeth Murray and had four sons;oldest being John McQuaid Vandall, my grandfather, whose son was John Murray Vandall. Being an only child and only off-spring of those four sons of B.C. (nick-name given), the line continues on with myself,John Glover Vandall,brother James William Vandall and brother Peter Murray Vandall. There are third boys and three girls in my two brothers' families.
Am looking to connect with relatives back in West Virginia who have information concerning B.C. departure for California and what family members were left behind, Also I believe a sister of his came west with him.
