I have always been interested in my family name Van Heyst, also spelled as Vanheyst or as van Heijst.I would like to hear from anybody with this name or from whoever is connected to this name through marriage or otherwise. If you have any corrections to the information as shown on my family tree, would you kindly contact me by e-mail. Some background information : Our family originates from Noord Brabant in the Netherlands and is predominantly of the Protestant religion.( Hervormd or Gereformeerd in the Netherlands and Christian Reformed or United Reformed in Canada and the US of America) I was born in the Netherlands and my parents and all of their children emigrated to Canada in 1950. Much of the information I have used came from a familytree journal of handwritten reports, which were done by a person, who was, I was told, a notary public and who had an interest in genealogy as a hobby. Undoubtedly my grandmother Petronella van Heijst, who also was a person who kept up with what was going on with the members of her extended family through correspondence must have asked this notary public to do some research of the van Heijst family of which she also was a member through her own bloodlines, being a full cousin of her husband Karel Arie van Heijst. She received the original handwritten manuscript of the van Heijst familytree journal and continued to the best of her ability to keep it up todate with changes, such as births, weddings and deaths of members of the respective families. Many years later I got hold of a photocopy of the manuscript and from this as a base I set up my own familytree. I must mention that the photocopied manuscript was at times difficult to read, but most of it I was able to figure out. Sometimes I have checked with other sources on the internet for additional information and clarity . Further I have gleaned information from other researchers` familytrees, which had connecties to the van Heijst name, as I have found on the internet. To each of these researchers I am grateful for help thus received.
