My Grandfather was born in Petaluma Ca. His name was Lewis Julius Van Slyke.
My mother, Hazel Lindesmith and father, Lewis William Van Slyke, were born in Los Angeles,. I am seeking information about my grandfather. He was in the cavalry in 1900, and served as a bodyguard to President Theodore Roosevelt when he visited Los Angeles in the early 1900's.
I was raised until 1946 at 7615 Denker Ave. Los Angeles, Ca. 6043 (for those that remember that form of zip code)
We then moved to Vista, Ca. My Parents were members of the Farm Bureau, The Vista Masonic Lodge, the Order of Easter Star, Scottish Rite Masons and the Al Bahr Shrine. My father started the 4H club in Vista and was instrumental in organizing several Boy Scout Troops in this area.
He was extreamely active in Masonic youth organizations, and achieved many honors for his endeavors.
