Our family is having trouble finding any information of our ancestor, Carl F. E. Boldt, who was born and raised to manhood in Germany. He was in the Prussian Army in 1870-1871 and because of his height(over six feet)he was a special bodyguard to Kaiser Wilhelm. All records of his military were destroyed when Berlin was bombed during WWII they say. We have not been able to find where he was born, who his parents were, or how many siblings he had. However, we know that he had two brothers, Lewis-birthdate unknown, and Carl August-birthdate December 6, 1844, who emigrated to the United States prior to his arrival, approximately 1873. He didn't have enough money for passage so he stowed-away on the ship, SS Batavia, arriving in Boston on April 15, 1876. We know that he arrived in Minnesota and went to Belle River to see his brother August. August had married Augusta Gutzman from Germany. Carl married Wilhelmine Engfer on October 31, 1876 in Alexandria, MN. If anyone can furnish a link to this mystery of our ancestor, we would greatly appreciate it.
