Using the Osage Tribal Annuity Rolls of 1878 I have managed to trace parts of my grandparents' family tree, dating back roughly to the early 19th century. My grandfather, David Ware Tinker II, and my grandmother, Pauline Florence Carder, are the starting points for this search. I am the daughter of their oldest daughter, Susan Marie Tinker Vongvisith.
My last name, Vongvisith, comes from Thailand. My father, Praserm Vongvisith, emigrated here in 1962. Unfortunately, there are few records of my father's family since Thai families did not, for the most part, have surnames before 1920. Ours means "superior family." My grandmother, Bualoi Vongvisith, has told me that her father and my grandfather's father came from Canton in south China, and they came to Thailand in the late 1800s to escape being drafted into a war against the Japanese. They married Thai women and settled in Nong Bua Lai, Thailand. My grandparents on my dad's side are both half Chinese. That is pretty much all I know of that side of my family.
Therefore, I am searching for ancestors of my maternal grandparents, whose family names include Tinker, Lewis, Sands, Carder, Keithley, Hughes, Swisher, Thompson, Lessert, La Chapelle, and Roy, for starters. I would like to trace my grandparents' families back to pre-Colonial times, possibly to countries of origin in Europe. Most of my grandpa's ancestors were Kaw (Kansa) and Osage Native Americans. I also know that part of my grandpa's family was French, and my grandma has said she has Irish ancestry. I'd appreciate any information about any of the people in this family tree, particularly since my grandparents are getting along in years and not in the best of health. Please contact me if you have birth or death dates or other information about any of the people in my family tree. Thanks!
