Gabriel Bormann came to America in 1887 with his second wife and several of his children. Although he had lived in Wettmar, a village outside of the City of Hannover, his family had for generations lived in the Harz Mountains, making a living by producing charcoal for the mining industry.
In America, the family lived first in Wichita, Kansas, where eldest daughter Elise married, then soon moved to Chicago, where many of his descendants live today.
Gabriel fathered a total of 16 children, most of whom lived to adulthood. Finding his descendants has become a delightful pastime.
