The information contained in the Vater family tree was taken from the Stammtafel des Geschlectes Vater, written and self-published by Hofrat Oskar Vater, Rudolstadt, Germany in 1913, and from my Uncle Johann Arthur Vater's Ahnentafel. These papers were given to my father, Ernest Vater, after WW2 when he returned to Germany to visit his brother, who had served in the Germany navy in WW1 and WW2. My brother Paul Vater had the original copy of the Stammtafel, and his daughter Linda Lewis was able to obtain a copy of it. It was all written in German fractur script. With my 2 years of high school German some 50 years ago, and 3 German/English dictionaries, and a lot of help from fellow genealogists, I translated it. It is on Rootsweb, and Ancestry.com, and now a portion of it is on this site. I hope to add more family trees in the near future.
