The surname Walters was originally "Walter" only a few generations ago. Our lineage came from Scotland and Ireland. We have only been able to accurately trace the Walter lineage back to Jeremiah Walters, who was possibly born in Dobbs County, or Gates County, NC, circa 1780. Jeremiah lived most of his life in Marion County, SC, as a farmer and owner of one of North Carolina's largest plantations at the time. He moved to NC sometime around 1840 and died on his plantation in Robeson County, N.C. His first wife Elizabeth Bethea's family tree whom our lineage is from can be traced back to England.

Moore Leonard Walter son of Jeremiah started a plantation in Montgomery County, Alabama, where the family farmed for 2-3 generations.

Our mothers side includes the Wares of Wares Chapel, Arkansas who settled near the town of Haynesville,LA,. Also included were the Modisettes also from Arkansas, Hammons (Hammonds), Peters, Spruill's, Teagues, Fletcher's, Swaines, Shepherd, and Lawrences. We can trace much of this line back to Europe.

Our ancestry family is a mix of Scots, Irish, English, German, French, Portuguese, Seminole and Cherokee. Contemporary generations have added Castillian, Italian, Belorussian-Ukrainian and Mexican.

We certainly welcome all inquiries and information you may have to support and to assist us in growing this tree! If you have information you would like to share please contact me.
