Nellie Sylvia Logue is believed to have been born in Bedford County PA either May 1910. She was an orphan most of her life. Her parents Albert Logue and Elizabeth (Lizzy) Lockard are believed to have married in approx. 1908 and are listed on April 28 1910 census as living in Snake Spring, Bedford County PA.
Lizzy is believed to have died shortly after childbirth a month later, and Albert is listed in a newspaper blurb on January 20, 1912 as "Albert Logue found dead in Beford Barn" (no other detail).
Nellie now orphaned lived on and off with her maternal Aunt Margaret Lockard born about 1890 who married Jesse Hicks born about 1888 (all from PA). Margaret and Jesse Hicks had several children, one beign Daisy Hicks who was roughly the same age as Nellie, and sometimes they refered to each other as being sisters.
Elizabeth Lockard also had a brother George Lockard born about 1880 who is believed to have registered as a Seminole Indian decendent. They were beleieved to be half Seminole Indian.
Nellie first married a Elmer McConaughey and had 6 children (William, Doris, Florence Marie, Emily, Shirley & Dale) and then re-married a Earl Spurgeon Laird Nov. 19 1943 and lived in the Harrisburg, PA area and had 9 more children (Beverly, Earlene, Gloria Jane, Donna, Iva Lou, Earl Jr., Veryl, Sharon, Ronald).
