I am documenting my family ancestry and am trying to identify the parents of James Warrick 1778-1882 (my ggg Grandfather) who was born in New Jersey. If you have any information on James and/or his family please contact me. Or, if you do not have any information but are interested in this family let me know and I will send you what I have.
James first showed up in Upper Freehold, Monmouth County in 1840, then in Pemberton, Burlington County, in 1850. From 1860 until 1882 he lived in Keyport, Monmouth County. James married Mary (Bennet?) in 1831. 1880 census shows James and Mary living with youngest son Henry, in Raritan Township, Keyport, (Monmouth County) N.J. James and his sons were Basket Makers. The name spelling (for this particular line) changed sometime between 1850 and 1860 from Warrick to Warwick. 1910 Census shows Henry still had the Basket Manufacturing shop in Keyport, and grandson Frank (9 years old) living with him. James and Mary’s children are: Moses b 1836 (married Elizabeth Adelaide Rogers), Elisha b 1836, Harriet b 1837, Martin b 1837, Charles b 1838, Mary J. b1841, and Henry b 1844.
James’s son Elisha (1836-1878) was my gg Grandfather. Elisha and Hannah ? children are: Joseph Hooker 1865-1923, Samuel 1872, Nelly 1874, Ida C. 1861, Alfred 1859, Ella 1859.
Joseph Hooker Warwick was my g Grandfather. He married Lena Scheidt and was a Locomotive Engineer, probably for the Central Rail Road of New Jersey (CNJ). Joe’s brother Samuel, was also a Locomotive Engineer and had a son named Frank who was born in 1903.
Joseph’s son, Harold Joseph Warwick 1890-1971, was my Grandfather. He married Lillian Mae Patterson and was also a Locomotive Engineer for CNJ. I believe James may be a descendent of Matthew Warrick (1683 – 1729) a Quaker who came from Yorkshire, England. Matthew married Frances Horseman in 1712 and settled in Burlington, NJ around 1704. Matthew’s children are: Isaac, Jacob, John, Samuel, and Abraham.
