I am fairly new to genealogy and am rather ambitiously I think in retrospect, trying to trace all sides of both mine and my husband's family.
The main surnames I am researching are:
BROUGH, COOK, GROOM, HARRIS, HAYWARD, HEATH, JOHNSON, MARSDEN, MARTIN, NORBURY, RIGBY, ROBINS, SPEAK, THORN(E), WARBURTON AND WINTER.
Other associated surnames are:
ABBOTT, BARBER, BARNES, BELL, BONNICK oe BONWICK, CLARK, DAVIES, DEWBERRY, FAULKNER, JONES, LEESON, KINGHAM, McMILLAN, OSBORNE, STAIRS STEPHENSON, WHINNET, WILLIAMS AND WILSON.
Geographical details on the main surnames are as follows:
BROUGH and MARTIN families come from around Hull in Yorkshire, England.
COOK, GROOM,ROBINS and THORN(E)families come from Bedfordshire in England, mostly based around the parish of Chalgrave.
HEATH and WINTER families are believed to hail from London.
HARRIS family believed to originate in London, but may have a connection with Russia. In latter years, circa 1850 my great grandfather William moved to Bedfordshire and that is where my main research has been based. William worked on the Canadian Pacific Railway in the early 1900's, taking eventually eight of his eleven children out there with him. When he and the four sons returned to the UK, the four daughters:- Charlotte (known as Lot), Rose, Ruth and Lucy remained in Canada (although I believe one moved to the US). Lucy was married to a Jack Bell who was a Mountie. Ruth married Ben Dewberry and had sons Ben Jnr. and John. Lot married Alf Stairs. Rose married Ted Nonnick or Bonwick.
Since the deaths of the sisters and their siblings in England contact has erroded, but I would be delighted to hear from any of their descendants.
HAYWARD family believed to be from Monmouthshire.
MARSDEN, RIGBY, SPEAK and WARBURTON families are from Lancashire, England, mostly from the Bolton and Chorley areas.
JOHNSON and NORBURY families are from Cheshire, England.
Any contact from anyone researching any of the above names would be most welcome - I need all the help I can get.
